Most dreaded workout: 8x (200 free on 2:20 into 150 on 2:20) I hate that set

She is a Mom and Pediatrician.

Cannot live without: My boys (Jorge, Enzo, Eli)

Pre-race ritual: Try not to vomit or trip. Keep Jorge calm.
Most dreaded workout:
800 repeats off the bike at race pace.

When asked why Ali loves racing she said, “It is honest and raw. No pretense. You are surrounded by like minded people competing against one another and in the process, pushing each other beyond what they believe is possible.”

Triathlete since 2011 when Laura signed him up for Silverman and gave him 2 months notice to learn how to swim.

Favorite post-race food: Anything but Maurten gels, Coke, Gatorade or Red Bull
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite Band: Van Halen

Cannot live without: Family and free time
Pre-race ritual: Enjoy watching those around me go nuts.
Most dreaded workout: Any hard swim!

When asked why he races: “It’s fun to accomplish something difficult, and to see how far I can push myself.”

 

Laura Yost

49 years old
Nurse, coach, personal trainer
Wife & mother of 4
Started Triathlon in 2010
Qualified for World Championships in Kona 7x

Favorite post race food: IF feeling well enough French fries, Fresca w/a splash of vodka.
Favorite color: Burgundy
Favorite bands: Volbeat, Five Finger Death Punch, Falling in Reverse, Disturbed.
Hates: Heights
Bucket list race: Challenge Roth
Cannot live without: My husband Gentry (he knows me better than I know myself) my children and my dog Kini.
Pre-race ritual: Deep breathing, visualization, and a small cry.
Most dreaded workout: 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1 swim odds fast, evens controlled… this set makes me grumpy!

Why do I race? Laura answered, “I love the grind of training and seeing how far I can push myself… and honestly probably the challenge of mastering both the physical and mental pain until the finish line!”

 

Jessica Perry

Favorite post-race food: Definitely a big juicy cheeseburger, fries and coke.
Favorite color: Oh man! Probably Florescent Lime Green.
Favorite Band: I am old school. Some good old rock…ACDC, Def Leppard. Or sometimes some good 311 can do the trick.
Hates: Snakes
Bucketlist race: Challenge Roth
Cannot live without: My family. They are my everything and my biggest supporters.
Pre-race ritual: Laughing with my friends and maybe crying for a second. And also battle braids… I always race with braids.
Most dreaded workout: 10x400 swim. It is a 6K swim and is just long and hard and boring!

When asked why she races: “I race because I love the challenge. I love pushing my own limits and seeing what I can do. Also, there is always room for improvement, and it is a good challenge to work on those areas of weakness and turn them to strengths!”

 

Kyle Lewis

Kyle is 43 years old.
He is a Sales Manager at Adobe.
He has 4 kids, 3 girls and 1 boy.
He has competed in 9 full 140.6 distance races and
qualified for World Championships 5x (140.6 x 2, 70.3 x 3)

Favorite Post race food: Double-double animal style, salt and vinegar chips, and a Mt Dew Slurpee
Favorite color: Black
Favorite Bands: AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine, Van Halen, Sum 41, NF, Eminem, 2Pac, Biggie
Current favorite song: “Shoot to Thrill” by AC/DC is always #1, but “Hope” by NF, “No Reason” by Sum 41 and “Kill the Noise,” by Papa Roach have gotten me through some tough workouts recently
Cannot live without: Watching and supporting his kids in their activities
Pre-race ritual: Get my game face on and don’t puke
Most dreaded workout: 1000 TT swim, FTP test, and any hard run after a long bike ride

When asked why Kyle loves racing he said:
“Haha, I hate racing. It’s all about trusting your training and mitigating your risks. Something is going to go wrong, so how are you going to react when it does? Racing has taken me to some of the darkest places and has pushed me through some intense mental barriers.”
